The laboratory team consists of professors, PhDs, doctoral students, masters, master’s students, and undergraduate students. Currently, we have a Scientific Initiation scholarship, an Internal Complementary Internship scholarship, and two outreach scholarships, in addition to a Qualitec scholarship and a Proatec/UERJ scholarship.

Ronaldo George Helal | Lattes

Helal is a full professor at the Rio de Janeiro State University. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Communication from PUC-RJ, a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences from UFRJ, a Master’s degree and a PhD in Sociology from New York University. He is a postdoctoral researcher in Social Sciences at Universidad de Buenos Aires, with a senior internship in France at the Institut National du Sport, de L’Expertise et de la Performance. In 2008, he completed the specialization course “Tango: genealogía política e historia” (Tango: Genealogy, Politics, and History”), offered by the Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales – FLACSO. He is the coordinator of the research group “Communication, Sport, and Culture” and of the Laboratory of Media and Sports Studies – LEME. Helal has published 15 books and 150 articles in book chapters and academic journals in Brazil and abroad.

Fausto Amaro | Lattes

Amaro is an adjunct professor in the Department of Public Relations at the Faculty of Social Communication – UERJ, is a permanent lecturer in the Postgraduate Program in Communication at the same institution, and a deputy coordinator of LEME. He is a Prociência fellow at UERJ. He has experience in the field of Communication, mainly working on the following topics: the Olympic Games, sports, football, media history, consumption, and idolatry. Amaro has numerous articles published in national and international journals, as well as book chapters.

Leda Maria da Costa | Lattes

Costa is an adjunct professor at the Faculty of Social Communication – UERJ. She is a postdoctoral researcher in Communication and holds a PhD in Comparative Literature from UERJ. She is a researcher at LEME and a collaborating professor at PPGCom/UERJ. She is a PAPD – UERJ fellow. She is the editor-in-chief of the journal Esporte e Sociedade/UFF. She is a member of the research group Sport and Culture/UERJ. Costa is a columnist for Ludopédio, a production linked to Ludens (Interdisciplinary Center for the Study of Football and Ludic Modalities) at the University of São Paulo.

Camila Augusta Pereira |Lattes

Pereira holds a PhD and master’s degree in Communication from PPGCom/UERJ. She is a Qualitec fellow at LEME/UERJ. She is a professor at the Faculdades Integradas Hélio Alonso – FACHA and a substitute professor at the School of Communication at UFRJ. She has teaching experience in public and private universities in Social Communication, and Sports Management courses. Pereira is one of the editors of the blog “Communication, Sport, and Culture” of LEME/UERJ and the author of articles published in journals and book chapters.

Clara QuintaneiraLattes

Quintaneira holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the Rio de Janeiro State University – UERJ – 2022. She was a PIBIC fellow at LEME/UERJ and now serves as a PROATEC fellow. She is one of the editors of the blog “Communication, Sport, and Culture”. She received an honorable mention for her work “Comunicação e esporte: da pesquisa à disseminação do conhecimento acadêmico” (Communication and Sport: From Research to Dissemination of Academic Knowledge), under the supervision of Professor Ronaldo Helal, presented at the 27th UERJ Scientific Initiation Week.

Álvaro do Cabo Lattes

Communication (PPGCOM-UERJ), and Bachelor’s degree in History from UFRJ. He is a lawyer. He currently teaches at UCAM, Prefeitura-RJ, and serves as a PAPD-DOCÊNCIA/UERJ fellow. He is a researcher at the LEME/UERJ and SPORT/UFRJ laboratories. Cabo is the author of the book “Argentina/1978. Uma Copa do Mundo política, popular e polêmica” (Argentina/1978. A Political, Popular and Controversial FIFA World Cup) as well as numerous academic articles in the field of sports studies in the areas of History and Communication.

Irlan Simões Lattes

Simões is a Faperj postdoctoral researcher at PPGCom/UERJ, holds a PhD in Communication from the same program. He is a journalist with experience in the television show “Redação Sportv” and in a blog on “Globoesporte.com”. He is the author of the book “A Produção do Clube: poder, negócio e comunidade no futebol” – 2023 (The Club’s Production: Power, Business, and Community in Football) and the editor of the book “Clube Empresa: abordagens críticas globais às sociedades anônimas no futebol” – 2020 (Corporate Club: Global Critical Approaches to Anonymous Societies in Football).

Nicolas CabreraLattes

Cabrera is a postdoctoral researcher at the Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ). He holds a PhD in Anthropological Sciences from the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba (UNC) and a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the Universidad Nacional de Villa María (UNVM). He specializes in themes related to violence, security, crime, sports, and visual anthropology. He is also dedicated to comparative studies between Argentina and Brazil. He is a professor, chronicler, photographer, and supporter of Belgrano.

Anabella LéccasLattes

Léccas completed her high school education at Colégio Curso EME – 2019. Currently, she is an outreach scholarship holder at LEME/UERJ, with participation and presentation of work in congresses and academic events. She was awarded at “UERJ Sem Muros” – 2022 (UERJ Without Walls), a university event, in the tutoring category, and in the following edition, 2023, she won the Lélia González award for her tutoring work in the course “Comunicação e Cultura 2” (Communication and Culture 2).

Fernandes completed his high school education at Colégio Santa Terezinha – 2018. Currently, he is an internal complementary internship scholarship holder at LEME/UERJ. He has experience with video editing and social network communication and participates in the production and editing of the podcast “Passes e Impasses” and the newsletter “Replay”.

Breno FrançaLattes

França completed his high school education at Instituto Braga Carneiro – 2018. Currently, he is a scientific initiation scholarship holder at LEME/UERJ. He has experience with video editing and social network communication and participates in the production and editing of the podcast “Passes e Impasses” and the newsletter “Replay”.

Kauhan FiauxLattes

Fiaux completed his high school education at FAETEC ETSC. Currently, he is a scientific initiation scholarship holder at “Passes e Impasses”. He has experience with photography, video editing and social network communication and participates in the production and editing of the podcast “Passes e Impasses” and the newsletter “Replay”.

Letícia Ribeiro | Lattes

Ribeiro completed his high school education at FAETEC ETSC. Currently, she is a scientific initiation scholarship holder at “Nações esportivas: usos geopolíticos e apropriações mercadológicas do esporte no século XXI”, a project of LEME. She has experience with social media.

Victor Hugo |Lattes

Hugo completed his high school education at Colégio São José, em Niterói. Currently, she is a scientific initiation scholarship holder at “Comunicando a diversidade: políticas e afetos de marcas cariocas sobre a comunidade LGBTQIAP+”, a project of LEME. He has experience with video editing and social network communication.
