The Laboratory of Communication, City, and Consumption (Lacon) was founded in 2012, thanks to funding from a Faperj public notice, and is coordinated by Professor Ricardo Ferreira Freitas. It is linked to the research line “Cultura de Massa, Cidade e Representação Social” (Mass Culture, City, and Social Representation) of the PPGCom at UERJ.

In collaboration with LEME, Lacon organizes events and exchanges studies on sports, consumption, and cities with the aim of presenting research to promote scientific knowledge.

The objective of the portal is to create a network of information, researchers, and football enthusiasts, focusing on the dialogue between football and the Humanities. With an independent proposal, the aim is to gather information, texts, and research on football, which are currently dispersed.   LEME researchers collaborate with the portal by publishing their research and articles, as well as promoting and organizing events.

The CINEfoot is the only football film festival in Brazil and a pioneer in Latin America. Launched in 2010, it has held thirteen consecutive regular editions in Brazil, seven in Argentina, five in Portugal, and seven special editions, becoming a reference in the global circuit of sports film festivals.   CINEfoot has the unconditional support of football fans, consolidating this fascinating and popular alliance between cinema and football, emerging as the only film festival designed to delight spectators and fans.   LEME collaborates with CINEfoot in promoting the festival and participates in its events, such as panel discussion and debates.

Created on April 7, 1908, its main objective was to ensure journalistic rights and become a center of action. According to its founder Gustavo de Lacerda, the Association should be a neutral ground where all press workers could find shelter. As stated in 1969 by a former president of the House, Fernando Segismundo, “In addition to its fundamental purposes, the association must interpret the thoughts, aspirations, claims, and cultural and civic expressions of our press; preserve the professional dignity of journalists – not only its members; safeguard the interests of the profession; stimulate among journalists the feeling of defense of the nation’s cultural and material heritage; highlight the press’s role in our history; and collaborate in everything concerning the country’s intellectual development.” (https://www.abi.org.br/institucional/historia/)

The Laboratory of Sports Studies (LESP) is an interdisciplinary meeting space for undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as postdoctoral researchers. It is a laboratory open to all who wish to exchange ideas and present their research in seminars dedicated to analyzing the presence of sports in the modern and contemporary world.   The laboratory is coordinated by Professors Bernardo Buarque de Hollanda, Jimmy Medeiros, and Vivian Fonseca. The partnership between LESP and LEME aims to promote events for disseminating knowledge about the sports world through exchanges between their researchers and event organization.

  • Rede Nordestina de Estudos em Mídia e Esporte (ReNEme)Northeast Network of Media and Sports Studies

The Rede Nordestina de Estudos em Mídia e Esporte  – ReNEme (Northeast Network of Media and Sports Studies) was established in August 2020 with the aim of strengthening and giving visibility to research developed by students and professors from the Northeast region of Brazil associated with undergraduate and postgraduate programs. These studies focus primarily on sports, especially their media coverage, from the perspective of Communication and related fields in the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Applied Social Sciences. The network currently has representation from students and faculty members from the nine states of the Northeast region.  The ReNEme name is an adaptation of the Laboratory of Media and Sports Studies (LEME), which the group considers a mentor. This connection is particularly significant as ReNEme made its first public appearance on September 4, 2020, at the “LEME Meeting” on the topic of “O cenário da pesquisa em Comunicação e Esporte no Nordeste” (The Research Scenario in Communication and Sports in the Northeast). Since then, more network members have been regularly publishing on the “Communication and Sports” website, and ReNEme has received support from LEME in organizing the two editions of the Northeast Postgraduate Student Communication and Football Conference – 2020 and 2022.

Located in the stands of the Municipal Stadium Paulo Machado de Carvalho – Pacaembu, the Football Museum opened its doors on September 29, 2008, and has since become one of the nation’s most visited museums. It is a museum open to all audiences, whether they are lovers of the world’s most popular sport or not. The visitor service is a cornerstone of the Museum’s educational initiatives, which also encompass the curation and development of temporary and traveling exhibitions, alongside a rich cultural program.  The museum is under the stewardship of IDBrasil Cultura, Educação e Esporte (IDBrasil Culture, Education, and Sport – Social Organization), a private non-profit entity dedicated to providing public services that benefit the community. The museum’s operational funding is derived from a combination of state allocations and revenue generated by the organization itself through ticket sales, event rentals, sponsorships, and other initiatives.
